As millions shop in stores and online. This holiday weekend through Cyber Monday, there are new tools that reward you for spending to get the biggest bang for your buck. ABC's Becky Worley has details on how to cash in.

[00:00:14]

You're not using cashback services like Rakuten.

[00:00:17]

These shoppers are making money while spending it.

[00:00:20]

You are literally missing out on money that could be going right back into your bank account.

[00:00:24]

So how can you make your purchases pay you back?

[00:00:27]

There are so many different kinds. Whether it's cash back, loyalty programs, point systems. Bottom line is the best way to save money is a willingness to get in on these games and become a strategic shopper.

[00:00:39]

If you're going to do the online shopping anyways and you can earn cash back for the shopping you were already planning on doing, why wouldn't you?

[00:00:45]

These programs fall into different categories. First, there are online shopping portals that give you points for shopping through their site or their app. Rakuten is one example.

[00:00:55]

Once you click the link from Rakuten, for example, or from ibotta, a tracking pixel is placed so that Rakuten or ibotta get credit for your purchase and they're getting that cash back and then giving you a portion of it.

[00:01:08]

Honey is a shopping tool that's added on to your browser. In addition to price comparisons, it also gives you PayPal cash for your purchases. I've made almost $100 using Honey in my browser for the last couple of years. But remember, you might have to give up some information to put money back in your pockets.

[00:01:26]

The back end of these rewards programs are so often fueled by companies using your data, and that's how they're able to give you all of these great rewards. We have so many companies that know exactly how to monetize that data, and so they're willing to pay shoppers if they're willing to provide it to them.

[00:01:42]

Another option for cashback retailer specific credit cards. Target's Red Card offers 5% cash back for Target purchases, and Amazon's Prime Card gives you 5% back on Amazon purchases and whole food buys, plus a limited time $200 cashback bonus if you sign up for a new card. Finally, some out of the box rewards programs that can pay off all year.

[00:02:04]

It's not right getting free cash back.

[00:02:06]

Just for shopping ibada. It ties into the loyalty program at your grocery store and pays you back a portion on your food purchases. Given how much we're spending on groceries these days, that cash back can add up quickly. Built Rewards is a relatively new program that helps renters get rewards for paying their rent.

[00:02:26]

If every American can build their credit just from paying rent, I think there'll be a lot more opportunities for people to enjoy know, especially when you think about the upcoming holidays and things you could be doing with points and miles.

[00:02:37]
