Acclaimed rapper, singer Mike Towers has quickly grown into one of the top lyricsists and hit makers coming out of Puerto Rico, amassing hundreds of millions of streams worldwide. I got a chance to sit down with a superstar to talk about his recent success and path to stardom.

[00:00:19]

2023 was already just a huge year of success for you. World Tour, multiple Latin Grammy nominations, two albums. How do you plan on topping that? You already have La Falda, which has stayed at the top of the charts already for two consecutive weeks. What's next?

[00:00:38]

No, that got me up to keep my focus on and to stay consistently making music and dropping it, too. I feel like I have more levels to get into, so I'm ready to keep winning.

[00:00:58]

When you think back to In 2016, you dropped your first mixtape to where you are now, what about eight years later? Is it hard to believe?

[00:01:10]

It's been a journey. I've been learning too much. But if you ask me back, but then let's say, let's keep it way back. If you ask me 2012, 2013, that I will be where I'm at, I probably doubt a little bit. But I to be in a good position, but I don't pay attention to that because whenever I'm winning, I don't like to celebrate too much. When we don't get the results that we want, just pass the page.

[00:01:46]

You've been listening to regueton and Latin music all your life. Are you surprised to see just how much success that it's seeing at this point?

[00:01:57]

I could say surprise, but I I would say more that I've been studying the game, how it been going from when I was a little kid. My uncles, my father, they were a fan of that Music was already popular in the underground and everything. But when you see the evolution and now me being part of it, one of the faces of the new era is them. It's been... Like I'm telling you, when I was a kid, I didn't even knew I was going to be part of it.

[00:02:37]

Why do you think it is that now we're starting to see so many people blow up, especially coming out of Puerto Rico in particular, starting with Daddy Yankee and beyond?

[00:02:47]

I think for the new generation, they've been starting the game. But when you think about all the artists in the little island, it comes way back from the salsa days, like, My Ribera, big names that they already were all around the world performing their song. So now for us, the way it's already open for us is the green light. For me, it's like the new generation, they already started all that. They can come wrong. They got to go hard.

[00:03:24]

What do you think it is about you, your work, the way you've studied, your skills, your love for the beats, for the lyrics that sets you apart? How have you become one of the faces of this music movement?

[00:03:38]

I think if I got to tell you, if I had a formula, I think is that every song, every concept I treat it like it was the last one. So when I'm in a future, like a remix or a song that there's a lot of other artists, I don't care who it is. I got my name, got to be like, damn. You make him... Sometimes you got to let him know. So that's my way to let him know.

[00:04:07]

And every time, every song, you're letting him know.

[00:04:10]

When Mike is on it, he's going hard.

[00:04:13]

What is your favorite song on your new album?

[00:04:16]

My favorite song is called La Pantera Nera, the title of the album, because it's what I really started doing in the music. What I like to do. Then it went like, Okay, the people like this and they want this, so I got to mix what I love to do with what they missed. With what the people want. Yeah.

[00:04:42]

What are you looking forward to most about the future? Do you have a new goal that you've said, or what's your biggest plan or ambition?

[00:04:52]

I'm not doing this for a long time, so I'm preparing my way. I'm I want to be coaching the next generation and helping, giving them my game to them, too. But I want to do another thing. Now I'm trying to do all the music that I With the future music, I already have a recording, so I have a lot of goals that I want to do, and the music will help me, but this is a process. It's a stepping stone. Just enjoying it. Yeah.
