Welcome to NFL Daily, Almost Weekly. I'm Greg Rosenthal. And yeah, we're going to be doing this Almost Weekly. We're going to take a look at some of the best features you can find on NFL Pro. I've been geeking out just about how I can fit my agendas into what NFL Pro is offering. It's so much easier to find tapes. And so we're going to go through a bunch of all 22 today that really stuck out in terms of new schemes in the 2024 season and what's showing up on tape. And you know I'm going to start with Gino Smith and what he is doing in this new Ryan Grub offense, of course, the offensive coordinator coming from the University of Washington. And yeah, it's easy to just look up. If you look at the intermediate routes that Gino Smith through this week, I made a little playlist here. He's seven for eight for 110 yards and a countdown. You're looking at it frozen. Look where Tyler Locket is when Gino Smith throws that ball. He's going up against a youngster, Reilly Moss at cornerback. And to me, I just love these throws because it shows Total and ultimate trust between a veteran quarterback and a veteran receiver in Locket.

This is a different play. Same idea, though. Pressure in Geno Smith's face. Look at where Locket is right now. He has not even come close to making his break, and Gino trusts him for the back shoulder throw. That is a play that I think you can only make with a ton of experience in the league, Gino Smith and Tyler Locket. Don't forget about Tyler Locket. He still could be the top receiver for the Seattle Seahawks team. As I mentioned, seven for eight, 110 yards for Gino Smith in the intermediate range. Perfect pass rating and a shutdown in week one. I'm really excited. I think there's going to be layers to this Seahawks offense that they unveil Week after week. D. K. Metcalf did not have as big a game, but I think that big day is coming when Patrick Sertan is not covering him. Let's look at some running plays that caught my eye in terms of new schemes in week one. J. K. Dobbins, a guest on NFL Daily. He gets the NFL Daily bump, and I was really impressed watching him in this Jim Harbaugh scheme. And of course, he's familiar with it because he was in Baltimore.

[00:02:24]

Greg Roman was in Baltimore previously. There's a lot of carry-over. I just want you to watch the burst when J. K. Dobbins makes a decision. My running back. Absolutely great vision. He has that one split second that you look at, watch on this play, and when he sees the hole, he just absolutely goes. Vision is such an underrated part. Right there, he sees the hole to his left, and then he is so fast making that quick decision. And there's nothing at the second level at all for J. K. Dobbins. He was 98 rushing yards over expected. A lot of them were on that run right there. That was the most in week one by a mile in terms of runningbacks. And a lot of that is because the Raiders are playing those stack boxes. You expect to shut down the run against the stack box. And you saw on that run, they had the fullback in for Jim Harbaugh, and it's really working. The two tight ends quite a bit. And J. K. Dobbins, he's got to get caught from behind. That's who J. K. Dobbins is. But what makes him special, it reminds me of Emmett Smith, is that stop and start in the vision, and he knows where to go.

[00:03:28]

Another running back I have loved he's watching over the years is Alvin Kamara, and people were trying to dig dirt on his grave saying AK wasn't the same guy. And I was telling you, if you actually watched the tape the last few years before NFL Pro was out, you could see that Alvin Kamara is still a quality running back. And now I'm going to just dial up some of his 10 plus yard runs from week one. There weren't many last season. There were a lot this season. And what you see here is a cohesive offensive line. The offensive was blocking their ass off. Clint Kubiak comes from the San Francisco 49ers, and you see these outside zones. See, they're not the same two plays. They look like them, but these outside zone plays that they come out in week one, and they already can major in the outside zone. That is really promising for what Alvin Kamara can do, because they show if you can block for him, he's going to get what's blocked in a little bit more. His success rate was 60 % in week one. That was so much higher. I went through the last couple of years.

[00:04:33]

He did not have a game like this since 2000, and that's really all about the offensive line in the system that they brought in with Clint Kubiak. I think the Saints offense is going to be a little more watchable this year, and that's exciting for Sundays. I'm excited to have this show, NFL Daily, almost weekly. We're going to be on NFL Plus, and so you can check us out here. And then, of course, check out the NFL Pro to dial up all the plays that you want. And yeah, maybe I'll see you next week. Maybe I won't.
