Hello, and welcome to your election headlines. I'm Rita Chakrabarty. The Labor leader, Sakeer Starmer, has ruled out raising capital gains tax on people's main homes if Labor wins the election. It comes after the Conservatives repeatedly raised questions over Labour's tax policies. Sakeer said that he can absolutely guarantee it won't happen over the next Parliament. He was speaking as he visited a hospital in Nottingham to discuss Labour's plans to clear the NHS backlog with their to create 40,000 extra appointments a week in England.

That will make a massive difference to those people on waiting list. That's 2 million a year. Just as we did when we were last in government, we brought the waiting list down, so we will do so again.

The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has been off the campaign trail today, going from the G7 summit in Italy to Switzerland for a peace conference on Ukraine with dozens of other world leaders. He said that he wants to find lasting peace on terms that are acceptable to Ukraine.

I'm pleased that the UK has played a leading role in providing support to Ukraine, the first country to provide lethal aid. More recently, under my leadership, the first country to provide main battle tanks, long-range weapons to train Air Force pilots. That demonstrates the strength of support for Ukraine.

Bsnp's Kate Forbes was in South Lanarkshire, focusing on Brexit and claiming that trade barriers have gone up since the UK left the European Union and have had a negative effective effect on the food and drink industry. Ms. Forbes said that only with independence could Scotland rejoin the EU. And Saread Davy continues to have fun here in Surrey, but the liberal Democrats focus is, in fact, on crime. They want to scrap elected police and crime commissioners to release what they say will be an extra £170 million for frontline policing, including solving what they call a car theft epidemic in the UK. After their own analysis showed that 74% of car thefts have gone unsolved since the last general election. Well, we're just over halfway through this election campaign now.
