In Germany, where police say that they are still hunting for the suspect of a stabbing attack which killed three people and injured multiple others in the western city of Zollingen. Well, police have arrested a 15-year-old who they say isn't accused of carrying out the attack. Two men aged 67 and 56, and a woman aged 56 were killed. Investigators say that they don't yet know the suspect's motive, but that they cannot currently rule out a terrorist motive. While the attacker, reportedly, slabbed, passes by at random during a festival marking 650 years since the city was founded. In a press conference, German police shared details about the number of those killed and injured.

[00:00:45]

Unfortunately, three people did lose their lives last night. Eight people have been injured physically by the attack. Four four of whom are seriously injured. The psychological damage that will have been caused to many people is, of course, a much wider issue for many more people. There has been an arrest of a 15-year-old, and we are currently investigating the connection between this person the attack. We believe at the moment that there is one perpetrator. We will, however, of course, explore all avenues in our investigation.

[00:01:39]

German police there, they had given a press conference which lasted around 45 minutes. It's a lot to undertake. But of course, the most important thing is that three people were killed, eight people were injured, four of them very seriously, and the person responsible for those attacks is still on the loose. Let's cross over to Berlin. Our correspondent there, Damian McGinnis, joins us live. And Damian, you were monitoring very closely that press conference. I guess we had an awful lot of detail, but let's start with the arrest of the 15-year-old. Arrested, not charged. Just talk us through what we know about that.

[00:02:16]

That's right. So what's happening there, Kasha, is that the 15-year-old is arrested early this morning. He's not suspected of being the perpetrator himself. According to police, two witnesses heard the 15 the 15-year-old talk to the suspected perpetrator about the stabbing before it happened. Presumably, it was only later that the witnesses realized what they'd heard. They then went to the police, and that's when police police realize that this 15-year-old potentially knew the perpetrator, because that's obviously the big question. The attacker is still on the run. What's happening right now is this 15-year-old is being questioned. He is also He presumably will be charged for not going to the police with information about a crime before or after the crime was carried out. He, presumably, will be charged, and he will face some punishment, possibly, if found guilty. But the key question, really, is to find out who the attacker was and to find out where he is right now, because that is the real problem. That's what's leading to a lot of worry, a lot of feelings of insecurity still in Zollingen and that area around it. For more about the latest, my colleague Simon Jones has the latest details now about what's been going on in Solingen.

[00:03:40]

Police out in force on the streets of Zollingen after an attack that, in the words of the mayor, has brought shock, horror, and great grief to the city. The attack took place at an event to mark the 650th anniversary of the city's foundation, a celebration that turned to tragedy. This is the moment the festival's organizer was forced to call the event off. We don't want a panic here, but a knife attack has injured several people.

[00:04:09]

We want to ask you to keep calm, but also keep your eyes open because the perpetrator is still on the run.

[00:04:16]

A major hunt is now underway for the man who killed three people and injured eight others. The German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, says the suspect must be caught quickly and punished to the full extent of the law. He added, We mourn the victims and stand by their families. This man, bringing flowers to the scene this morning, saw the attack unfold.

[00:04:36]

For the families and relatives of the victims, we want to show we are there for you. I was here with some friends. We were sitting on the benches, but we heard the screams and people started running, so we also ran away.

[00:04:53]

With the attacker on the run, police are urging people to be cautious. They don't have a clear description of the suspect. Officers are trying to piece together what happened by speaking to witnesses, but many remain in shock. The remainder of the festival has been canceled. Simon Jones, BBC News.

[00:05:15]

Those are the latest developments there, Kasha, from my colleague, Simon Jones. But as we heard in that report, the question is, where is the perpetrator and who is he, and what was the motive? Police are not ruling out a possible terror-related motive. They say that the victims don't appear to be connected, so they think it's not a personal motive, which is why they're not ruling out possible terror relation, some terror-related motive. What they are saying, though, to people is until we know more, they're really pleading for people not to engage in speculation, particularly online, because already, particularly in German social media, we've seen all sorts of rumors and false information flying around. And of course, in a situation like this, which is ongoing and where a lot of people feel very insecure, it's more important than ever that people don't really engage in that speculation. I think that's a real worry of the police right now.

[00:06:11]

Yes, absolutely. Damian, as always, thank you so much for bringing us up to date and talking us through those main points from that press conference. Damian Mcginnis, live in Berlin. Lots.
