What's the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist?

[00:00:03]

Simple difference. I'm a medical expert. So how you go to your neurologist, your cardiologist who've done their MBBS, and they're their specialization. So that's your psychiatrist. So we prescribe medications.

[00:00:12]

A psychologist is not allowed to prescribe medication.

[00:00:14]

They're not medical experts. So they would understand the science of psychology. So they would be doing more of your talk therapy. So the counseling, psychotherapy interventions. So that part is by the psychologist. And the medical aspects, which is diagnosis, medications, that's a psychiatrist.

[00:00:31]

Do you work together as a team?

[00:00:33]

Yeah, if you don't, it'll be incomplete. I mean, let's accept it very, very clearly. In fact, when people come and ask me that, should we go to a psychiatrist or should we go to a psychologist? My answer is very simple. You go to someone where there is access to both. Otherwise, it will not be complete treatment.
