What happens while you're growing up in order to become a cricketer? And that's the question that I have about all-rounders as well.

[00:00:06]

I think most cricketers, particularly in the UK now, they all want to try everything. I've never understood a batter not being able to bowl. If you go back to India when they won the World Cup in 2011, most of that top six could all bowl. You could just bowl a few overs. If you look at India's top six now, none of the batters really bowl. I think it really affects India in whiteball cricket because as a captain, you want as many options as possible. And even if it's just two overs here, three overs there, it makes your equation down the back end of an innings that much easier.

From the perspective of a batsman, it's probably slightly confusing to face someone who doesn't bowl often. Is that the overarching point?

I look at someone like Glenn Maxwell. Glenn Maxwell, incredible batter. His offspin is very clever because he can think like the batter. And because he plays all the tricks and all the remarkable shots, he's as good as anybody.
