Investigators in Gwinnett county are working to identify human skeletal remains found in Dekula. The news catching the attention of a mother of a college student who went missing in Gwinnett county continued to search for the body of missing teen Justin Gaines. Both the Department of Natural Resources and the Walton County Sheriff's department were on Pan to search the wells and waterways net.

[00:00:59]

County police searched every square inch of these woods off of Georgia Highway 316 and Drowning Creek Road into Cula, where someone found human skeletal remains Monday evening. Justin Gaines mother, Erica Wilson, tells me she just got done. In 2015, investigators followed a tip that Justin Gaines had been buried in an abandoned well in Walton County, Georgia. After three days of searching drilling wells and using cadaver dogs, authorities came up empty. This would be one of many similar attempts to find Justin, all providing false hope, all ending in disappointment. Since Justin Gaines disappeared 16 years ago, his family has had no choice but to move on with their lives the best they can while waiting for closure. But closure doesnt come easy when there have been no arrests made for his death. Hes still officially listed as a missing person. With no body found, the family cant even properly lay him to rest and say their final goodbyes. For Erica Wilson, not being able to say goodbye yet means there is still a chance that Justin could return to her one day. Until then, she keeps that hope alive and the proverbial candle in the window litanous to guide him home.

[00:02:23]

Yeah, I mean, it's better than the alternatives. I keep hope. I have never declared Justin dead. Maybe it's a psychological thing. Everything I hear, of course, is Justin's gone. All these stories of him being murdered, but, I mean, I'd wonder what he'd be doing now. You just never know. A lot of people that have missing children declare them dead. And I mean, it's probably what happened, but I mean, that's just like in my mind, giving up hope until I have closure. I mean, if I don't have hope, what do I have? I try to think of positive things, or maybe things that might have happened or I would like to have seen happen, you know, that the best story would be someone was threatening Justin and said, we're gonna kill your family, or whatever. And Justin said, man, I gotta pretend I'm dead because I don't want them to kill my family. be obtained by speaking with this caller.
