A sixth grade student was killed, and at least five others were injured in a shooting at Perry High School in Perry, on Thursday morning. According to police, the 17-year-old suspect died of what authorities believe was a self-inflicted gunshot. Witnesses say the shots began at around 7:36 AM while students were beginning their first day back from winter break. Police reportedly arrived within seven minutes.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for Wednesday's attack in Iran that killed almost 100 people in the city of Karmann. Daily Wire reporter Tim pierce has more.

The group US official Telegram account posted a statement calling the attack a dual martyrdom operation. The message also stated that the attack was carried out by two men who detonated explosives strapped to their bodies in two separate locations at the commemoration ceremony for former Iranian general Kassam Solomani. Some Iranian outlets had been quick to blame the US or Israel in the immediate aftermath of the attacks. The claims by the Islamic State also contradict reports by Iran state media that said the bombs had been placed in bags and then detonated remotely. American officials say it's likely that the terrorist group's main objective was to seize an opportunity to hit an enemy, not necessarily to frame Israel for the attack. Both the Islamic State and a Suny Islamist group have a history of opposing Iran.

An armed unmanned surface vessel launched from Houthi territory came within a few miles of the US Navy and commercial vessels before detonating in the Red Sea today. The incident came just hours after a host of nations who had partnered against the Houthis issued an Iran-backed militia a final warning. The nations say this is the last straw before mounting a military response. According to US Navy officials, this marks the first time the Houthis have used unmanned surface vessels since their attacks on commercial ships began. Though the Iran-backed group has used them in the past. Military weapon experts say USVs have previously been used by the group as suicide drone boats that explode upon impact. Leaders around the world are calling for a global response, while also calling out Iran, the group's main support. Support.

The United States does not seek confrontation with Iran. Iran has a choice here. It can continue its current course or it can withhold its support without which the Houthis would struggle to effectively track and strike commercial vessels, navigating shipping lanes through the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

Former President Donald Trump is asking the US Supreme Court to overturn a ruling in Colorado that deems him ineligible for the state's ballot due to his alleged role in the January sixth riots. According to many legal experts, the nation's highest court is expected to rule on the case, and the ruling would apply to all the states. Earlier this week, the former President appealed a similar decision made by Maine's Democratic Secretary of State to remove him from the ballot. Both of the state's decisions to remove Trump cite Section 3 of the 14th Amendment that was adopted in 1868 to prevent Confederates from regaining their former governmental posts. Trump remains on the ballot in both states until the appeals are done.

The trial for the man charged with stabbing author Salman Rushdie on stage in New York in 2022 has been delayed. Rushdie, an Indian-British novelist, had been critical of Islam, resulting in threats of assassination for many decades. Daily Wire reporter, Mairead Alorty has more.

A judge ruled Wednesday that Haiti Matar is allowed to seek material related to Rushdie's upcoming memoir about the attack ahead of the trial. Jury's selection in Matar's trial was slated to begin on January eighth, but after his lawyer argued that he should be allowed to see Roshdi's manuscript, the trial was put on hold. Lawyers representing Matar argued that he's entitled by law to see the writings saying written or recorded statements about the attack made by any witness are considered potential evidence. 26-year-old Matar has been held without bail since he allegedly stabbed Rushdie more than a dozen times in 2022. A new trial date has not yet been set.

In an extraordinary caught-on-cam moment, a felon who was about to be sentenced for a Violent crime leapt over the bench and assaulted a Las Vegas judge. The 30-year-old was in court to be sentenced on charges of attempted battery when the wild moment happened. It led to a major confrontation between the man and court marshals, one of whom received a head injury and needed stitches. The outburst means the defendant will be back in court at a later time to face a slew of new charges. Moments before the attack, the defendant told the judge he was in a better state of mind now and asked for mercy. But the judge said she couldn't ignore his past criminal history.

I figured that if I'm in a better place in my life, I'm not doing drugs, I'm not up there doing any crimes now, and I feel like I should be given a shot.
