The pair are speaking less than a day after the Atlanta City Council approved a $2 million settlement. Pilgrim and Young will each receive $1 million. They say the night of May 30th, 2020, will forever be etched in their minds. That is when they were tased, pulled from a car and arrested by Atlanta police as protests over George Floyd took place in the city. Apd reported the confrontation was over a curfew violation. The students say this settlement offers some justice.
It's a memory that I've been wanting to forget, and I'm sure Messiah has to, but unfortunately, it is etched into our memory.
The officers involved in the incident were criminally charged days later, but charges were ultimately dropped. The pair a civil lawsuit in federal court in 2021, and that led to Monday's settlement.
