Steve Dangle here for SDPN. And we have some huge breaking news for the professional hockey landscape in North America this upcoming fall. As in this year, 2024, as in in a few months, there will be a new professional Hockey league launching in North America. I'm told it will be called the MLH, standing for major league hockey. And what sets it apart from the NHL, the AHL, ECHL, what sets it apart from all those leagues is it will be full time, three on three.

[00:00:36]

Not just overtime. The games will be played three on three. Rosters will be 14 players. That's twelve players, twelve skaters, and two goalies. And there will be a salary cap just like there is in the National Hockey League.

[00:00:52]

The National Hockey League salary cap is $83.5 million, or at least it was this past season. The salary cap for MLH will be $30 million. So if you were to divide a $30 million salary cap evenly over all 14 players on the roster, that would be roughly 2.1, a little bit more than $2.1 million per player. Additionally, I'm told that for every win a team gets, there will be a $100,000 bonus given to that team for that win to be split amongst the whole team, not just the players. I'm told it will also apply to the coaching staff, which will be roughly an additional five 6000 each per person.

[00:01:41]

I'm told there will be 16 teams in this league spread across North America, that is Canada and the United States. Canadian markets will include British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Quebec and Ontario. The american teams will be in some of the bigger states, New York and California. Minnesota will have a team and ironically, Arizona will get a team. Missouri will be getting a team.

[00:02:07]

New England will be getting a team, although not exactly sure where Nebraska will be getting a team, as well as Oklahoma and rounding it out. There will be two southern markets with Texas and Florida. Now, if you've been keeping count, that's only 14 places, and there's gonna be 16 teams. So a couple of those places are going to have two teams, although I'm not sure where. I'm told all 16 teams will be able to sign three marquee players.

[00:02:35]

That is to say world class players with professional experience in North America, Europe or Russia, with the rest of the roster being rounded out by players from the NCAA, Canada youth sports, plus major junior players from Canada, the US and Europe. And I'm also told that women's players who are qualified will be considered for the league. I'm also told that it won't be 60 minutes of three on three? That would be a lot. They will be 24 minutes games with an intermission.

[00:03:05]

My understanding is we should be getting more details about this in short order in the coming days. But this is what I have for you now. A brand new three on three professional hockey league is set to launch in North America this fall, 2024. Those are the details that I can tell you right now. But there are still a number of issues to be resolved.

[00:03:26]

Number one, I told you the states and provinces that are going to be getting hockey teams. Okay, what cities are they going to be playing in? Once we know the cities? All right, what arenas are they going to be playing in? What size of arena will they be playing in?

[00:03:42]

How many people can fit in that arena? How is this league going to make money? Right? Who will be the coaches for these teams? Who will be the general managers?

[00:03:52]

Will there be a trade deadline? How do fines and suspensions work? Because in the NHL, the maximum fine you can get is $5,000. But if you win a game in this league with the bonus that your team gets the $100,000 bonus, you could just wipe that fine away. So what will the fines be like for this league?

[00:04:17]

And part of the reason that fines are $5,000 in the National Hockey League is because, well, it's the max allowable under the CBA. Well, will there be a collective bargaining agreement for this league? Will there be a players union or a players association? As far as the marquee players go, who will be the first marquee players to play in this league? Will they be retired players?

[00:04:42]

Will they be players considering retirement? Will they be players who jump ship from their professional hockey team or decide not to re sign with their professional hockey team in the KHL swedish league? Maybe from the American Hockey League, or even players from the National Hockey League? Obviously a big deal in the north american hockey landscape. I'd love to know what you think about it.
