A PLD buyout spans 14 years and has a cost of $15 million, but a savings of 31.667 million. Dubois is 25 years of age at the time of this potential buyout. Therefore, the ratio would only be one-third.

[00:00:17]

Can I give the info on the minutia that's going on with the one-third buyout? Hit me up. Pld on June 24th turns 26 years old. If they were to do the buyout June 24th post through June 30th, where the buyout window is, the buyout would actually be two-thirds. If they want a one-thirds buyout, the buyout would have to take place before his birthday. I was listening to 32 thoughts this morning. They had some great info on this. One thing that they pointed out is that the buyout window does not open until the Stanley Cup playoffs are over. The last date that game seven of the Stanley Cup playoffs could be is the day of his birthday. If the Stanley Cup playoffs go to game seven of the final round of the Stanley Cup, they cannot do a one-thirds buyout because the buyout window will not have opened. If the Stanley Cup playoffs end before his birthday, then they have the option of the one-thirds buyout.

[00:01:23]

This could be one of the-Shout out Elia and Jeff for doing some great-That's some good digging. I want to throw this out there. This player's career is already one of the more interesting that I can remember.

[00:01:34]

Well, he was drafted third overall, having switched positions midseason. Remember that? Yeah. He had played center in the queue for half a season, and everyone's like, You are out of your frigging minds. Jesse Pullier-Ree was really highly rated at the time. They passed on him. That hasn't worked out great. Who else they passed on? By they, I mean the Columbus Blue Jack. It's Matthew Like a Chuck.

[00:02:02]

That could have changed the Columbus fortunes forever.

[00:02:07]

Dude, we're talking about a guy who a team, picks you third overall, they're investing in you automatically. They picked you third overall, and he dogged his way off of that team. He requested a trade, which is fine, but he quit on them.

[00:02:24]

Can we do the numbers on the buyouts?

[00:02:25]

Please, I would like to have that.

[00:02:27]

The one third buyout, if LA Kings choose to buy out PLD, which would be a crazy thing to do because the buyout is going to go through 2038.

[00:02:38]

Ron Blake's fired.

[00:02:41]

It's double the years that are left on the contract, so 2038. Throughout that deal, they're going to have a cap at a $27 million over those years. It averages, it's not bad, it's manageable. It's 1.6, 1.5, 2.5, 3.7, 3.8, 3.8, 2.8, and then 1.1 through the rest of those years, which would be about six years left. And then if they do the buyout after his birthday, so final goes to game seven, it'll be a two-thirds buyout. You can see that the cap hit is a lot more through those years, starting in '24, '25. It's 2.7, then 2.6, then 3.6, then 4.9, 4.9, 4.9, 3.9, and then 2.2 through 2031 through 2038. One last thing with the contract, a no movement clause kicks in at the next calendar season.

[00:03:32]

Okay, so 2025 and '06?

[00:03:34]

They have an option here to trade them now if they really wanted to do it. They can't. Because the no move clause kicks in for next season. So 24, 25, Next season, he has a no move clause, but right now, he does not.

[00:03:49]

You can't trade him. You can't trade him. You can't trade him. You have to-You have to July first. You have to find somebody to play double retention with. Because there's a lot of teams out there. I'm sure they would take a chance on them. Actually, maybe you do take a chance on PLD at 4.25. If you do 50% retention, I'm sure there's plenty of teams that would take that chance. But I look at this and I think, whatever this is, This hasn't worked. I look at this specifically as it pertains to Mark Bergevin. And I started this segment saying, maybe I'm biased. It's not about Pierre-Luc Dubois. I remember in 2021, when we were at the draft in Montreal, Pierre-Luc Dubois joined his there, not because he wanted to go and congratulate players, but because he was almost certain that he was going to Montreal. Whatever deal was in place fell through, and he was there. I bet you, Montreal had a good pick in that draft, he would have been up there with him. They had the first overall pick. He would have been up there with him, Hey, your eyes love, Kowski, come on down.

[00:04:54]

Anyway, here's a great situation. You end up in Los Angeles after you You tried to get out of Winnipeg for a couple of years after you tried to get out of Columbus for a couple of years. And now you finally got everything you wanted. You get to be in a sunny place. It's Los Angeles. Like, what a great place to live. It's a great team. A great team. It's sunny all the time. You can ski, you can swim in the same day. It's just that California, for all the crap that California takes, is an amazing place to live. Of course it is. And there's a reason why everybody wants to live there. It's amazing. And he gets to go be there. I'm sorry, you changed coaches midway through the season. It changes nothing. This player had better figured it out. And for the LA Kings, I don't know how you... First off, they got to be seriously considered buying him out. But my question is, who's the guy that hired Mark Berjivan? They didn't have to do that because I'm almost a thousand % that Mark Berjivan was the biggest guy going, Get Pierre-Luc Dubosc.

[00:05:58]

No, Rob Blake should lose his Rob, because there's no reason you had to give PLD eight years when you're just trading for that asset from Winnipeg. It made no sense.

[00:06:06]

Well, dude, Gabe Velarde had more goals than him. That one I'm right about. Velarde had 22, and he had better He had 47 points per game. The only reason he didn't have more points than Dubois, he only played 47 games. Dubois is not even the best player in the Dubois deal.

[00:06:24]

Dude, that's horrible. We should wake up in a couple of weeks, and Rob Blake should definitely be fired.

[00:06:30]

Couple of weeks. This show is going to be out of date by the time it goes up. What are you talking about? The Kings are out of the play. I'm trying to look at who their management is. Head Coach Jim Hillar. I've seen them talk about him Maybe not being renewed. I don't know, man. He just got there.

[00:06:49]

I think Jim Hiller did a fine job with what he was given.

[00:06:52]

Yeah, we're a big Jim Hiller show. Don't ever forget it. We're a big Jim Hiller show. But I think the buyout tea with this, first of all, this is a really stupid loophole. This is a really stupid loophole that the NHL should probably maybe look into or NHL. Well, I guess the NHLPA wouldn't want it. It's dumb that the activity of other NHL teams affects the business of the LA Kings.

[00:07:25]

Boohoo. You signed the contract.

[00:07:27]

You knew what the rules were. They knew what the rules are, but I... What are you talking about? Well, okay, if the Stanley Cup final ends in four games, the Kings can buy this guy out if they want. If it ends in seven, they can't. And I think that's dumb. But it is what it is. They knew the rules, like Adam said.

[00:07:44]

Yeah, you have to set a rule at some point.

[00:07:47]

I have a baby brain, and I don't remember the other thing. Oh, we are using the buyout as too much of a crutch. It is really juicy. It's piping hot There are some bad contracts around the NHL that could be moved. You were like, Who's trading for that? Right off the top of my head, I went, what do you need to finagle to do a Dubois for Huberto deal? And then you mentioned that Dubois wanted to go to Montreal. Montreal has got some deals. Josh Anderson, you're telling me they don't want out of that deal? And maybe Dubois will be happy for, I don't know, 60, 90 days and give them some good hockey for that time before requesting another trade.

[00:08:39]

I'm sure the media will be pretty hard. No, they'll be really hard. Montreal, it's not an easy No. You want to talk about media that's tough. That's the Montreal media. And by the way, I respect it. They expect their teams to win.

[00:08:52]

Not all of them, but yeah.

[00:08:54]

Well, it's because they hold them to a high standard. They want a lot of cups.

[00:08:57]

Could there be some finagling done with the Kerry Price contract? There's potential movement here. I don't think the only way for Dubois to get out of LA is a buy But you want to hear a real fun one? This isn't going to happen, but imagine they... So, Jesse, does he have any trade protection right now? No.

[00:09:22]

No. Right now, it's the same situation that Mitch Marner was in last offseason. From today until July first, well, I guess, June 30th at 11:59 PM Eastern Time, you can trade PLD to whoever you want. Then once that new calendar season kicks in, you can no longer trade him without his permission.

[00:09:44]

There's no way this happens. But how funny would a PLD for Johnny Goudreau trade to Columbus?

[00:09:53]

They sent him back. No. They sent him back. Why would Columbus do it? No, they wouldn't.

[00:10:00]

Do you hear what you just said?

[00:10:01]

Why would Columbus do it?

[00:10:03]

That's how far Pierre-Luc Dubois has fallen. Why would Columbus take him back? Columbus frigging sucks. And they wouldn't even take this guy back? What happened? This guy was a killer. Money in the bank, 25, 30 goals a year. He's going to German suplex your star center in every playoff series. He's going to hit everybody. He's going to beat the shit out of you. What happened?

[00:10:36]

He was great in Winnipeg in the playoff.

[00:10:39]

And he's got only himself to blame. Yep.

[00:10:42]

Only himself. Yeah, I can't put it anywhere else.
