Footage shows three police officers approaching a male. They try to restrain him, but quickly the situation turns violent. Officers are assaulted, including a female who's punched in the face. Then an individual appears to have been tasered before falling on the ground as he's finally restrained. This appears to be the chaotic lead up to the widely circulated footage from Tuesday evening at Manchester airport, which showed a police officer kicking and stamping on a man's head as he lay face down on the floor. Four men were arrested, but the police's actions led to an outcry and protests. Greater Manchester police said an officer had been suspended and that they had referred themselves to the IOPC, the police watchdog. But the situation appears more complicated than it initially appeared. Greater Manchester police say they are appealing for witnesses in relation to three incidents that evening. The first is an altercation between passengers from Qatar Airways flight Qr zero two three. The altercation may have taken place during the flight or afterwards in the terminal two baggage hall. The second incident is a violent altercation involving members of the public in terminal two, Starbucks. The third incident is the assault of three police officers which occurred in the terminal two car park pay point area.

It's understood this resulted in the three officers receiving head injuries, including a broken nose.

It's a very disturbing image and hard to justify. But of course, I've had the opportunity now to see the full situation as it escalates, and it does escalate very rapidly and there are issues on both sides. You can't say that the whole situation is clear cut because of the way it unfolds. But then I don't recycle from what I originally said. Even though I've seen all of the build up, it's still a disturbing, disturbing image. And it's right, therefore, that the matter has been referred to the independent Office of Police Conduct, that an individual has been suspended and there will now be a full investigation.

This new footage provides a clearer picture of what happened on that controversial evening. But others will argue that police should be held to a higher standard than the suspects who they arrest. Alice Porter, Sky News.
