[00:00:50]

Welcome back to The Daily Show. Today is all about Tim Walsh, but Donald Trump is still out on the campaign trail, and that means Jordan Klepper is, too.

[00:00:59]

Check it out.

[00:01:01]

The last three weeks have been some of the most eventful in American political history. So I went to Harrisburg, PA, to see how the MAGA world is reflecting on these serious times. First, I want to know how they're coping with the loss of their favorite punching bag. I've seen you many, many times here. What number rally we at? 82. Are you sad about the Let's Go Biden chant being retired?

[00:01:26]

I'm sad because of all I've invested in all this anti-Biden How much Let's Go brand and anti-Jo Biden merch did you have? Thousands of dollars.

[00:01:36]

Is that right?

[00:01:37]

I buy it at the Let's Go Brandon store in Tom's River, New Jersey.

[00:01:41]

Did they have to rename that?

[00:01:42]

I think they're going to have to rename it.

[00:01:43]

How about one more for old time's sake?

[00:01:46]

Joe and the Hoe.

[00:01:48]

Now the name calling of Vice President Harris begins. If they could only decide how to mispronounce that name.

[00:01:56]

I'm surprised Kamala even has a chance. No one likes Kamala. They want to call her in. That's why I don't like to hear about the Kamala thing.

[00:02:03]

Why do you say your name like that? How do you say it? Kamala? No, it's Kamala.

[00:02:06]

Kamala.

[00:02:07]

Kamala. Kamala.

[00:02:09]

There you go. I appreciate that you're trying to say the name correctly. Yes.

[00:02:13]

I actually am not, but I inadvertently...

[00:02:17]

How would you want to say it?

[00:02:19]

Kamala? It's the way Bush used to say Saddam Hussein.

[00:02:23]

Is this you workshopping elevating Kamala to Saddam Hussein levels?

[00:02:28]

Kamala Harris is a bigger threat.

[00:02:30]

More anti-American than Sadam Hussein?

[00:02:32]

Yes, the most anti-American candidate for president we've ever had.

[00:02:36]

I got to tell you, if I ran into you three weeks ago, you might have said that about Joe Biden. That's right.

[00:02:39]

Do you think Kamala is qualified to be President?

[00:02:43]

Somebody that cackles all the time and laughs and everything under the sun? Are you kidding me?

[00:02:49]

A woman experiencing joy, not your thing? She's useless.

[00:02:53]

She's backpedaling on all her previous comments.

[00:02:57]

Is that your issue with her? Yeah. What do you like about JD Vance? He's a man of the people. You think he'll stand up for Trump? Yeah. Vance will stand up to the people who compare Donald Trump to Hitler. What happens if those people are also JD Vance? He has acquainted Donald Trump to Hitler, America's Hitler? Years ago. He flipped a lot. People can change. Yeah, but I still am like a parents. There you go. Apparently, writing a book about your opioid-addicted family makes you more qualified than any Black woman could ever be.

[00:03:30]

I heard she got up the ladder on her back.

[00:03:34]

Right, but millions of people voted for Kamala Harris. Did she sleep with all of them? I just don't know. No. No. But how do you sleep? You were to the top of elected positions.

[00:03:43]

I don't know how she Got to where she is, except if the word is DEI.

[00:03:50]

What do you think of JD Vance?

[00:03:51]

I think he picked him for votes in the Rust Belt.

[00:03:56]

So Trump wanted diversity on the ticket.

[00:03:59]

Yeah, so he wanted diversity on his ticket.

[00:04:01]

Sure. Over the years, the MAGA crowd has faced a lot of criticism, but none more stinging than the line of attack started by Kamala's new VP candidate, Tim Walsh.

[00:04:10]

These guys are just weird. These are weird people on the other side.

[00:04:13]

Democrats are trying to call the MAGA movement weird. What do you think of that?

[00:04:18]

I don't know what's weird about it.

[00:04:21]

Is it fair, though, to call the MAGA movement inherently an unserious movement? I don't think so. Do you think the discourse has gotten too Are you ridiculous? I think so. I just think sometimes from an outside perspective, it feels like you come to a Maga event and there isn't the seriousness. It's not about people trying to fix America. It feels like a carnival. Is that a fair critique?

[00:04:43]

No, I don't think so. No. I mean, these are people who are just genuinely care about the country.

[00:04:49]

People come here, they want to talk policy. They want to talk about God's law. They want to talk abortion rights. This isn't a freaking carnival. It's not Halloween. We're not all dressing it up like lunatics. It's a serious thing here. Absolutely. You do know you're wearing that hat right now? Yeah. Okay, cool. The rally was just three weeks after a truly tragic day in US politics. The official story was that the assassination attempt was committed by a disturbed young man who was a registered Republican. But this crowd isn't always according to official stories. I think people on both sides can agree. That was a horrific moment in our history. It was. Looking back at it, do you believe the things you hear?

[00:05:23]

Oh, no, I don't.

[00:05:25]

I believe it's an inside job. The shooting was an inside job? Yes. A lot of things aren't adding up.

[00:05:30]

It's very strange. I think that was a planned job. Anybody with any common sense knows that was a planned job.

[00:05:36]

Planned by who?

[00:05:37]

The Dems. The Left. The Deep State. Obama is involved in this.

[00:05:43]

You think Obama set up the assassination attempt?

[00:05:46]

I think that he surely knew about it.

[00:05:49]

Oh, it's the government for sure. It's the government? I think so. You think they would go through all of this? I mean, they really wanted to take out Trump. Wouldn't they just poison the Big Mac? I don't know.

[00:06:00]

The dance, the FBI, the special service.

[00:06:05]

Does it surprise you to hear that it was a disgruntled white guy, Republican, gun nut?

[00:06:10]

No, because you know what? We'll never know why he was picked. It's the perfect cover. Exactly. They could have gotten a disgruntled black guy, and I'm not... No problem. And they could have gotten a disgruntled black female. But no, they picked the disgruntled white guy.

[00:06:27]

A disgruntled white guy who's into guns at a Trump rally. It's like a Where's Waldo situation. Yes. It's like, Oh, my God, who doesn't fit that profile there?

[00:06:35]

Exactly. Just about the security and everything there, it's like something wasn't right there from beginning.

[00:06:41]

I don't know what gets me. It's like this kid was able to get an AR-15 that What the hell?

[00:06:45]

Yeah.

[00:06:46]

It doesn't add up. In that it adds up so cleanly, it feels too easy.

[00:06:49]

Exactly. There's no paper. They can only go so far, and it's like a dead end.

[00:06:54]

It's a situation where you want to connect the two dots, but it's just much easier to go all the way around. Exactly. Exactly. Exactly. Thank you, Jordan.

[00:07:05]

Hey, everybody. Jon Stewart here. I am here to tell you about my new podcast, The Weekly Show. It's going to be coming out every Thursday So exciting. You'll be saying to yourself, T-G-I-D. Thank God it's Thursday. We're going to be talking about all the things that hopefully obsess you in the same way that they obsess me. The election, economics, earn earnings calls. What are they talking about on these earnings calls? We're going to be talking about ingredient to bread ratio on sandwiches. And I know that I listed that, fourth, but In importance, it's probably second. I know you have a lot of options as far as podcasts go, but how many of them come out on Thursday? I mean, talk about innovative. Listen to the Weekly Jon Stewart, wherever you get your podcast.

[00:08:09]

This week, Kamala Harris held her first rally with her new vice presidential pick, Tim Walsh. Grace Cooling Smith went down to check out the vibes.

[00:08:17]

I'm here in Philadelphia at Kamala Harris's first joint rally with her newly minted VP pick, Tim Walsh. Wow. I haven't seen this much excitement about a white guy since the last one dropped off the picket. The party people are here to slay. But are these Kamala Maniacs ready to get Walsh killed? How excited are you about Tim Walsh on a scale from Joe Biden is running for President to Joe Biden just dropped out? Completely excited.

[00:08:42]

That's all I'll say.

[00:08:43]

Mostly excited.

[00:08:44]

Like, He's supposedly really excited.

[00:08:45]

So excited.

[00:08:46]

He's so awesome.

[00:08:48]

We're punk. You look really punk. The excitement is infectious. Even JD Vance's nemesis is here. I think Walsh will be fun. I don't know a whole lot about him, but I trust Kamala's instinct. These Democrats were still discovering their new candidate, so I wanted to bring them face to face with the man himself. All right, so here he is. Tim, how do you feel looking at him for the first time? I like them. I like them. This is the guy. We're going to kill him. Tim, we're going to kill him. Oh, shit. Yeah. Wait, my bad. Sorry. This is Tim Walls. I thought it looked like Tim Caine. I got them confused. Sorry. It looks like every other white guy.

[00:09:30]

Yeah, but he's a teacher. True.

[00:09:32]

What is it that you love about Walls?

[00:09:35]

The friendly dad energy.

[00:09:37]

Friendly dad energy. That's very fun. He serves this country in every way in so many capacities. But can he serve? Yes. We will make sure that he can serve. Right. So Tim has a lot of positives, but nobody wanted to name the albino elephant in the room that makes him such a political asset.

[00:09:55]

He's well loved by his succinct.

[00:09:58]

And His name is two syllabus, Tim. I think he'll bring the voters that she meets. Because?

[00:10:09]

We need somebody from the Heartland. He seems more relatable to average Joe. Veteran, coach, teacher, gun owner.

[00:10:19]

And nothing makes me more secure than a white guy with a gun. I love it.

[00:10:23]

What a crazy... I love it.

[00:10:25]

He knows about hunting, farming. He knows those people. Those his people.

[00:10:30]

Those people. I know what you're talking about.

[00:10:33]

Oh, the Midwest? Are we allowed to say those people?

[00:10:36]

After talking in circles for hours, somebody was finally ready to come out and say it. I mean, she definitely I hate to say that- Someone white. Someone white. It's like, hello. They run the world a little bit. It's good to have a white guy back, isn't it?

[00:10:55]

I mean, diversity is wonderful. We can make an exception.

[00:10:59]

In a way. Special white males. Yeah, you're right. How crazy is it that there hasn't been a special white male on the Democratic ticket for the last 16 days, 1 hour and 14 minutes? So it wasn't hard for you these past three weeks? You weren't like, Where am I going to have some representation around here?

[00:11:18]

I feel represented really right now.

[00:11:21]

That's what's up. Shout out, Tim. Giving white guys a whole new way to look at the world and understand that they have a place there they can belong.

[00:11:30]

By having a black Asian woman as a Democratic candidate. So I think it was necessary that we had a white man.

[00:11:36]

In a way, was he a DEI hire? Oh, absolutely. Okay, so we know Tim Walsh is white, but is he White enough to win all 19 electoral votes from Pennsylvania? Have you guys seen him play Hackey Sac? Have you seen him at a Dave Matthews Band concert? Have you seen him eat yogurt? Have you seen him say, I love yogurt? I love eating I'm a White guy. Have you seen him say that? Is he White enough?

[00:12:04]

He's close to Lily White, I think so.

[00:12:06]

You think so?

[00:12:07]

When it comes to White, he's right.

[00:12:09]

Got you. Okay, cool. Okay, so let's see some real American style diversity in action.

[00:12:17]

In Minnesota, we respect our neighbors and their personal choices that they make. There's a golden rule, mind your own damn business. He's definitely white.

[00:12:32]

It's clear that this ticket is already reaching across the aisle.

[00:12:36]

Their platform speaks to us way more than the Republican platform.

[00:12:41]

This might be a crazy question, but have you thought about just being Democrats?

[00:12:45]

So I want more of everyone in America to realize that not all Republicans are weird.

[00:12:52]

I think that's really beautiful. Yes, changes in the air. Republicans are getting less weird, and Democrats are getting less normal. And some things are more the same than ever. Let's look in the camera together right now and say it, Hey, white guys.
